Hip Surgery Claims Admitted by Welsh Health Board

A Welsh Health Board has recently admitted a series of negligent mistakes by one of its hip surgeons, in response to three separate hip surgery claims brought by Pryers Solicitors.

The Health Board’s Admission

The Health Board has admitted that their surgeon: –

  1. Failed to tell his patient that the device he was fitting was experimental and had a very limited track record.
  2. Fitted hip components in such a poor position that early failure was almost inevitable.
  3. Fitted a hip resurfacing in a patient for whom this was completely unsuitable.

In all cases, the hip replacement failed early, causing pain, damage to the surrounding tissues and the need for further surgery. The second hip replacements will not work as well or last as long as the first hip replacement should have done and these mistakes will have long-lasting consequences.

Richard Starkie, a medical negligence solicitor, and a partner leading the hip replacement team at Pryers said: “These were simple but inexcusable mistakes that should never have happened. While the injuries and their effects cannot be undone, it is at least of some comfort that the Health Board has chosen not to defend its surgeon’s actions and hopefully, our clients will now receive appropriate compensation in a reasonable timescale.”

Hip Surgery Claims at Pryers

Pryers Solicitors has a specialist hip replacement team dealing claims involving faulty implants, poor component positioning, negligent warning of risks, mismanagement of infection, leg length discrepancy, nerve injuries and many other complications of hip replacement and resurfacing.
