£52,500 Settlement
The case concerns a delay in diagnosing and treating periodontal disease between 2001 and 2011. By the time JM’s condition was diagnosed many of his teeth had a very poor/hopeless prognosis. In May 2012 it was noted that UR543, UL643, LR4 and LL7 all required extraction under general anaesthetic and JM was fitted with upper and lower dentures. He had previously lost a tooth due to excessive mobility as it fell out one weekend.
Our expert felt that JM was suffering from an aggressive form of periodontal disease and even with optimal treatment he would have lost some teeth in any event. He estimated that
9 teeth would have been lost in JM’s lifetime in the absence of any negligence. He went on to recommend the extraction of all but two teeth and dental implants.
Pryers Solicitors took the case on and extracted a settlement of £52,500 in the case.
