£22,000 Settlement
In July 2015, Mr D from Bradford suffered an eye injury at home. He attended his local hospital where the eye was flushed out and the lid stitched, and he was discharged home. He then underwent an operation to remove any remaining debris from the eye.
Around a week after this operation, he began to experience significant problems with his vision, but he was informed that it was simply the ointment for his eye causing these problems.
Mr D’s eyesight deteriorated over the next six weeks and he was eventually referred to a different hospital. He was informed that his retina had detached and he required surgery to repair this.
Pryers Solicitors were instructed to investigate a possible claim for a failure to fully appreciate Mr D’s symptoms and consider a diagnosis of a detached retina. An expert ophthalmologist was instructed to address the issues of whether the treatment Mr D received was appropriate, and if not, whether this had caused avoidable problems with regards the detached retina. Mr D was also examined by the expert, to consider his current condition and the future prognosis with regards Mr D’s vision. It was determined that Mr D had been left with significantly reduced vision in this eye.
Pryers Solicitors sent a Letter of Claim to the Defendant Trust, who admitted the case in full. Following negotiations, Mr D received £22,000 in compensation.
