Negligence Caused Severe Pressure sore

Negligence Caused Severe Pressure sore

£10,000 Settlement

Pryers successfully recovered compensation after a Hospital’s negligence caused Mr S to suffer from the most severe pressure sore whilst under their care.

Mr S was receiving palliative care for terminal cancer when he developed a sacral pressure sore.

A tissue viability expert was extremely critical of the care provided by the Hospital, who had been negligent in failing to ensure that Mr S was turned and repositioned at regular intervals. There was also a delay in diagnosing and treating the pressure sore, such that it was allowed to progress to an “ungradeable” severity.

With the appropriate care, the pressure sore was entirely avoidable.

Sadly Mr S lost his battle with cancer and passed away over the course of legal investigations. His wife then continued with a compensation claim on his behalf.

The Hospital admitted that they had been negligent but disputed that the sore had caused Mr S significant injury.

Pryers were keen to ensure that Mr S’s family were properly compensated for the Hospital’s failings. The pressure sore should never have been allowed to develop and it caused Mr S additional pain and distress in the last months of his life.

Court proceedings were started and Pryers achieved £10,000 in compensation for the family before the case reached Trial.
