£85,000 Settlement
Pryers were instructed by Mr W to investigate whether his GPs had been negligent in managing a long term prescription of Naproxen.
Mr W’s doctors had prescribed Naproxen to Mr W over a period of many years. Unfortunately, they failed to recognise that Naproxen is a nephrotoxic drug, meaning that it contains toxins which can cause severe kidney damage.
Pryers obtained reports from an independent medical expert Nephrologist and expert General Practitioner who confirmed that the continued prescription of Naproxen was negligent.
Mr W should have undergone regular blood tests to monitor his kidney function. Failure to do so amounted to negligence. When some of the blood tests showed abnormal results, the GPs negligently failed to act upon them.
As a result of these failings in care, Mr W sustained irreversible kidney damage. He developed renal failure and required a kidney transplant. Fortunately, Mr W made a very good recovery after his surgery.
Pryers put together a strong case for medical negligence against five of Mr W’s GPs and secured an early admission of liability.
An out of court settlement of £85,000 was negotiated, avoiding the need for court proceedings.
