£25,000 Settlement
Pryers successfully recovered £25,000 in compensation for Mr D after an out of hours GP failed to recognise the warning signs of a heart attack.
Mr D contacted his GP reporting indigestion like chest pains, which got increasingly worse over the course of the day. He was seen by an out of hours GP that evening but was simply advised to see his GP for blood pressure checks over the following days.
In fact Mr D should have been referred straight to hospital with a suspected heart attack. At that time he could have received reperfusion therapy, which would have limited the extent of the damage caused to his heart.
Instead, Mr D remained in pain and without treatment at home. The following day, he was rushed to Hospital with a ST Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) heart attack and suffered permanent cardiac damage as a result.
As a consequence of the GP’s negligence, Mr D suffered permanent significant cardiac impairment. He experiences shortness of breath and fatigue on relatively minor exertion, such as walking up stairs or bending over. Sadly the deterioration in Mr D’s health meant that he could no longer remain in his own home and he has since moved into sheltered accommodation. His life expectancy was reduced by approximately 12 years.
The Defendant GP initially denied responsibility for Mr D’s injuries but Pryers fought hard through the courts to ensure that the GP was held to account and Mr D was properly compensated.
Days before the case was to be heard at Trial, an out of court settlement was agreed, paying compensation to Mr D and all of his legal costs.
