£600,000 Compensation For Vasculitis Sufferer

£600,000 Compensation For Vasculitis Sufferer

£600,000 Settlement

Andrew, 56, from Salisbury, received £600,000 compensation in settlement of a medical negligence claim regarding an underlying condition of vasculitis.

Vasculitis relates to kidney function, and patients can stay relatively healthy if this is managed well. However, it can become serious if not treated quickly.

Andrew had a flare up of vasculitis in 2010 and attended his GP. However, there was a mix-up, and one GP sent him to the wrong department, whilst another forgot to send the referral. There was a delay of several months, after which Andrew had a seizure, and went into renal failure.

Pryers was able to obtain expert evidence that identified a breach and proved causation. Additionally, experts identified that there was a missed vasculitis check-up due to Andrew being unwell, and following this, the appointment should have been rearranged.

Andrew received a transplant from his wife during the course of the case, but this didn’t take, and he died, and was revived, several times whilst Pryers was instructed.

After the joint settlement meeting, in which Andrew’s wife and daughter gave instructions as Andrew was in a high dependency unit (HDU), the claim was settled for £600,000.
